The Universal Man
Week four of Discover Praxis is coming to a close, and with it, the wrapping up of The Concise Mastery by Robert Green. This week we discussed Social Intelligence in the workplace and everyday life, the transformation of mind & character over money, and the beginnings of attaining personal accountability and discipline. We started with analyzing our habits and then creating a plan to follow through with. For my accountability and discipline, I started using Habitica, an online Habit tracker that makes it feel like a video game. I also filmed, edited, and posted an About Me video, (link below). Overall, this week’s main focus was habit.
This week in The Concise Mastery by Robert Green:
“We no longer look at things as they are, noticing their details, or wonder why they exist. Our minds gradually tighten up. We become defensive about the world we do not take for granted, and we become upset if our beliefs or assumptions are attacked.” (p. 136)
This section of the book discusses the difference between how we view the world as children and how our paradigms shift as we grow older. This shift can make it harder for us to look at things with awe, or with a fresh perspective.
“In the Renaissance, the ideal was to become the Universal Man—a person so steeped in all forms of knowledge that his mind grows closer to the reality of nature self and sees secrets that are invisible to most people.” (p. 206)
The more we embrace learning as a practice, the more we can strive to incorporate our learning into our work. The best way to learn something is to teach or apply it. When we learn how to apply and connect all of our different fields of knowledge, we will truly unlock our inner creativity.
For the About Me video, I planned the filming process and script a couple of weeks ago. After making adjustments to my script to better fit the video format, I reshot the video. As a part of my editing process, I filmed many short clips as attention grabbers for the video. I then went through the painstaking process of learning how to edit a video, basically from scratch. I used CapCut because I’ve found it helpful for my content creation in the past, but I also discovered a couple of new features that I was unaware of previously. To learn how to assess a business model, I created a case study on Joshua Weissman, the link to which is below.
I began planning for the youth group that I help with during the school year. We will be going through The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens by Sean Covey, which I will be adapting from a biblical perspective. Hopefully we will see some new faces this year, and I know our past participants are excited as well. I also began the process of moving out as I will be renting space from my grandparents until I have saved enough to afford my own place.
Next week I will continue to use the habit and productivity tools, as well as keeping up my habits of waking up before seven, creating for 30 minutes a day, and exercising for 30 minutes a day. I also have an accountability partner for content creation/art, so I will help and be helped with having a consistent upload schedule on Instagram. I will also be starting the book Atomic Habits by James Clear. Another book added to my goal of becoming the Universal Woman. To wrap it all up, check out my About Me video and case study in the links below!
